The Dragnis Public Benefit Foundation honoured the historic memory of Anchialos in Pomorie

Strengthening Greece–Bulgaria Ties Through Historical Memory
The Dragnis Public Benefit Foundation Honoured the Ancestral Roots of the Dragni Family at the Anniversary Events in Pomorie. The Foundation was represented by its Director, Eleni Dragni, at the commemorative events marking 120 years since the burning of Anchialos, present-day Pomorie, and the first exodus of the inhabitants of the historic city. Her presence represented the Foundation and honoured the ancestral roots of its CEO, Paris Dragni. The Foundation’s participation in the commemorative events was a meaningful act of remembrance and respect for the history of the Greek community of Eastern Rumelia, as well as for the enduring ties that connect Anchialos with Nea Anchialos in Magnesia, Greece.
Ms. Dragni attended the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy held at the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, presided over by His Eminence Arseniy, Metropolitan of Sliven, in the presence of His Eminence Ignatios, Metropolitan of Demetrias and Almyros, as well as representatives of the local authorities, organisations, and a large congregation of worshippers.
It took part in the cultural events entitled “Meeting of the Descendants of Anchialos,” which highlighted the shared historical and cultural heritage of the two regions through music, traditional dances, and activities dedicated to preserving their collective memory.
On the sidelines of the commemorative events, the Director of the Foundation held a meeting with the Mayor of Pomorie, Ivan Alexiev, the Ambassador of Greece to Bulgaria, Marios Lymberopoulos, and the President of the Greek-Bulgarian Association “Anchialos Pomorie,” Stefka Alikova. The meeting took place in a particularly warm and constructive atmosphere, reaffirming the excellent relations between the two regions and their shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation. Discussions focused on opportunities to establish new channels of communication and collaboration, with particular emphasis on culture, historical memory, educational initiatives, and joint projects that may be developed with the forthcoming launch of the Foundation.
The Foundation’s participation in the commemorative events in Pomorie marks the beginning of a meaningful relationship centred on cooperation and greater outward engagement, with a shared goal of highlighting our common cultural heritage and developing initiatives that bring the local communities of the two countries closer together.
